Between the lobby bar area and poolside of the National Hotel Sunday night, 10 hair stylists teased, trimmed and weaved to create their interpretation of a South Beach superstar.
''South Beach hair is airy and sensual; it moves,'' said stylist Tito Cruz of the Sullo Salon and Day Spa in Fort Lauderdale. 'When you walk into a room you want people to say, `oh my God, that's incredible.' ''
Cruz weaved violet hair extensions into his model's shoulder-length, dark brown hair. he then gave her a precision cut.
About 300 people -- mostly area hair stylists -- turned out for the free event, which began at 8 p.m. at the hotel at 1677 Collins Ave. DJ Justin Sheppard spun soulful house music as audience members drank champagne and watched the stylists work their magic.
